📆📆 Calendar: IN-PERSON: From the 4th of November, you’ll have an hour-long class every Wednesday at 5 pm for 7 weeks until the 16th of December. If you miss a class, you’ll still get the material and some explanations from me, so then no excuse to keep practising your French every week!
This level is for students who are starting to feel comfortable speaking French. You're no longer afraid to jump into a conversation, even if you still need time to find your words, think about your grammar or make mistakes (don't worry, we all do!).
You've already learned the present, past, future and conditional tenses, and you've probably had your first introduction to the famous subjonctif! You don't need to have mastered them all, but you're starting to use them to express more than just simple sentences.
The big step at Level 4? We're moving towards speaking entirely in French!
Our aim is to immerse you in French for the whole hour, using clear, slow and natural French. Of course, we'll still use English when needed, especially to explain tricky grammar or vocabulary. But we're encouraging you to give French a go as much as possible!
At this level, we start having real conversations: sharing memories, telling stories, talking about future plans and even giving opinions. Conversations might still be a little slow, and that's absolutely fine!
You'll continue building your vocabulary, revisiting grammar and, most importantly, learning to use what you already know more naturally.
Remember, you don't need perfect French to join Level 4. You just need to be ready to use it and be a bit challenged! 🙂
Not sure whether Level 3, Level 4 or Intermediate is right for you?
Level 3: If you still need a little time to build your sentences, practise the main tenses and gain confidence speaking French, this is the right place for you. You might still feel a bit nervous about speaking, and that's absolutely fine!
Level 4: You're ready to jump into conversations! You can tell stories, talk about your experiences and share opinions, even if you still make mistakes, search for words or need a few pauses. We're starting to speak mostly in French, but at a gentle pace, with English when needed.
Intermediate: You're comfortable having conversations entirely in French and can follow discussions at a more natural, faster pace. You don't need perfect grammar or vocabulary, but you're ready to challenge yourself with longer, more spontaneous conversations, all in French!
🧑🏫 The class will be conducted by Louise from Lyon in France, a really experienced native French teacher.
🗣You'll be learning from a native French Speaker, so you’ll experience how French is truly spoken—not from an app or a textbook. A quick heads-up: you won’t be learning the typical phrases like “Parlez-vous français ?” or “Voulez-vous visiter le musée ?” because that’s not how we really talk. But don’t worry, I’ll explain all of that during the course and help you sound like a real French speaker!
The class is open to only 6 students to keep the class small and cosy, but mostly so everyone can practice and ask questions.
Every class includes homework and different types of exercises to help you keep a good routine outside of the class. You'll get all the materials in a printed and online version, before/after each class, meaning you don't need to buy a book.
☕We'll meet in a French cosy café in Bruntsfield after it’s closed (La Barantine), which makes it feel more like hanging out than a formal lesson - indeed, don't expect a "rigid" approach such as formal institutions. Students who come are super friendly and motivated—not just to learn French, but to enjoy some time with interesting and nice people. So my classes are all about learning and having a good time together.
📌 Location: We’ll meet in the famous La Barantine Bruntsfield, a French bakery & coffee shop booked just for us, oui oui! (202 Bruntsfield Pl, Edinburgh EH10 4DF).
