EDINBURGH - TUESDAY LEVEL 3 IMPROVER

Approximate level: A2

📆 Calendar: IN-PERSON: From the 3rd of November, you’ll have an hour-long class every Tuesday at 7:10 pm for 7 weeks until the 15th of December. If you miss a class, you’ll still get the material and some explanations from me, so then no excuse to keep practising your French every week!

Comfortable with the basics but still a little shy to speak French?

This level is for students who already have a good foundation in French but still need time to build sentences and find the right words.

You can talk about everyday topics, ask questions and use the present, past and future tenses, plus a little conditional. You've also learned more complex structures, like « Je lui ai parlé », but using them naturally in conversation is still a challenge!

We'll practise telling stories, sharing opinions, talking about plans and finding ways to express yourself, even when you don't know every word. We are starting this class to move more towards a class mostly in slow French. :)

If you can say things like:

• « Hier, je me suis réveillée tôt et j'ai pris le train pour Glasgow. »
• « Je lui ai écrit un message, mais il ne m'a pas répondu. »
• « L'année prochaine, je pense que je devrais aller en France plus souvent. »

...then you're probably in the right place!

Speaking is always at the heart of our classes. We'll encourage you to use more French, but English is still there to help you along the way. The aim is to feel more comfortable speaking before moving towards conversations entirely in French.

Not sure whether Level 2, Level 3 or Level 4 is right for you?

Level 2: You're still getting comfortable with the past and future tenses and need more practice building sentences.

Level 3: You know the main tenses and quite a lot of vocabulary, but speaking spontaneously still feels difficult or a little scary.

Level 4: You're ready to jump into longer conversations, even with mistakes and pauses, and start speaking mostly in French!

📚 That's the overall idea, but as you know, language learning is fluid and can vary from one student to another. That’s why we keep our classes small, with a maximum of 6 students, to ensure we can adjust to each student’s level and make sure everyone gets plenty of speaking time. The key to learning a language is speaking it, so our main focus is simple: speak, speak, and speak.

🧑‍🏫 The class will be conducted by Louise from Lyon in France, a really experienced native French teacher.

🗣You'll be learning from a native French Speaker, so you’ll experience how French is truly spoken—not from an app or a textbook. A quick heads-up: you won’t be learning the typical phrases like “Parlez-vous français ?” or “Voulez-vous visiter le musée ?” because that’s not how we really talk. But don’t worry, I’ll explain all of that during the course and help you sound like a real French speaker!

The class is open to only 6 students to keep the class small and cosy, but mostly so everyone can practice and ask questions.

Every class includes homework and different types of exercises to help you keep a good routine outside of the class. You'll get all the materials in a printed and online version, before/after each class, meaning you don't need to buy a book.

☕We'll meet in a French cosy café in Bruntsfield after it’s closed (La Barantine), which makes it feel more like hanging out than a formal lesson - indeed, don't expect a "rigid" approach such as formal institutions. Students who come are super friendly and motivated—not just to learn French, but to enjoy some time with interesting and nice people. So my classes are all about learning and having a good time together.

📌 Location: La Barantine Bruntsfield, a French bakery & coffee shop booked just for us, oui oui! (202 Bruntsfield Pl, Edinburgh EH10 4DF).
