With only 4 participants, you’ll receive plenty of individual guidance from the teacher, while also learning from the projects and experiences of the other participants.
Whatever your current sewing experience, we’ll help you work towards your own clothing-making or sewing goals. Our teaching approach follows your interests, bringing the relevant skills and knowledge into your own project.
If you’re a beginner, no previous experience is needed. We can guide you step by step, including:
The course can also be adapted to your existing skills. You might want to improve your dressmaking, work on a particular garment, or learn more about sustainable alterations and adjusting patterns for a better fit.
The mixed-level format also creates an opportunity to learn from other participants and see different approaches to making and adapting clothes.
We keep the group to just 4 people so that everyone gets personal support and the course can respond to individual interests and needs.
Our welcoming studio environment encourages participants to share ideas, support each other and build confidence while developing practical skills.
We have a selection of patterns that you can use free of charge, or you’re welcome to bring your own garment pattern.
For this course, we recommend starting with a ready-made pattern, as copying a pattern from scratch can be time-consuming. If you’re unsure whether your pattern is suitable, feel free to email us in advance and we’ll be happy to advise you.
You’re also welcome to visit the studio before the course on Monday evenings to look through our pattern collection and choose one to copy and use for your project.
For your first project, we recommend choosing a medium-weight, stable fabric that is easy to sew, such as cotton, cotton blends or light-to-medium-weight linen. Avoid very stretchy, slippery or very thick fabrics, as these can be more challenging, especially when you are learning.
We also offer selected new fabrics from donations at low prices, helping you create your project more sustainably and affordably.
