EDINBURGH - THURSDAY LEVEL 3+ IMPROVERS

Approximate level: A2+ towards B1

📆 Calendar: IN-PERSON: From the 10th of September, you’ll have an hour class every Thursday at 7:15 pm for 7 weeks until the 22nd of October. If you miss a class, you’ll still get the material and some explanations from me, so then no excuse to keep practising your French every week!

This level is for students who are no longer scared of speaking; you're jumping in, even if you’re still searching for the right words and making regular mistakes. You’ve already learned the present, past, conditional, and future tenses, and you've seen the subjunctive briefly, even if you’re still figuring out how to use them.

In this group, we really start pushing the conversation further: talking about memories, plans, ideas, and preferences with more variety and vocabulary. The pace is gentle, and there's plenty of space to ask questions and build confidence, but we’re aiming to move to the next step! Indeed, the goal is to only speak in French during the class… And we started doing it! :)

🤔 Not sure which level to choose?

If you can discuss what you did last weekend, what you're doing tomorrow, or what you would like to do next year (even with mistakes), ask questions and start feeling confident, you’re probably ready for Level 3. If that still feels too far away and scary, then Level 2 will help you get there.

📚 That's the overall idea, but as you know, language learning is fluid and can vary from one student to another. That’s why we keep our classes small, with a maximum of 6 students, to ensure we can adjust to each student’s level and make sure everyone gets plenty of speaking time. The key to learning a language is by speaking it, so our main focus is simple: speak, speak, and speak.

🗣You'll be learning from a native French Speaker, so you’ll experience how French is truly spoken, not from an app or a textbook. A quick heads-up: you won’t be learning the typical phrases like “Parlez-vous français ?” or “Voulez-vous visiter le musée ?” because that’s not how we really talk. But don’t worry, I’ll explain all of that during the course and help you sound like a real French speaker!

🧑‍🏫 The class will be conducted by Louise from Lyon in France, a really experienced native French teacher.

The class is open to only 6 students to keep the class small and cosy, but mostly to ensure everyone can practice and ask questions.

Every class includes homework and different types of exercises to help you keep a good routine outside of the class. You'll get all the materials in a printed and online version before/after each class, meaning you don't need to buy a book.

☕We'll meet in a French cosy café in Bruntsfield after it’s closed (La Barantine), which makes it feel more like hanging out than a formal lesson - indeed, don't expect a "rigid" approach such as formal institutions. Students who come are super friendly and motivated—not just to learn French, but to enjoy some time with interesting and nice people. So my classes are all about learning and having a good time together.
